How to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?

i would like to now where it is on my car and how hard is it to change it and where it is my top radiator hose is really hard and it got hot today and the warning light came on i would really like to now where this thing is ok thank youHow to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?
the radiator hoses are suppose to be hard (coolant has 16 of pressure),

and what warning light came on?, there are so many. and what makes you direct your attention to the radiator??? I think you are going the wrong way , anyway the heater core is inside the box that also carries the a/c evaporator, need to remove the dash, the a/c lines in the engine compartment, the heater hose, so give to a professional, you'll save yourself a lot of griefHow to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?
the heater core may not be what caused it go get hot like that, the top hose is real easy to see its that one on top of the radiator,to remove the heater core though you have to remove the heater box and that does require the dash to be loosened enough to slide it back out of the way then you can remove the heater box assembly, but makes sure that's what is needed before you remove it, that's a lot of work to do to one without knowing for sure, good luck. How to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?
Heater cores are generally located under the dash inside the car on the passenger side. It's not hard to change but it is full of coolant. So take precautions if it truly needs to be changed. If your warning lite came on on it's probably not the core. Check your radiator fluid and thermostat first. Those are the first and easier quick fixes to check. Heater cores aren't normally the problem. How to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?
It is behind the dash on the passenger side of the car. The dash must come out of the car. On some vehicles, the windshield must be removed in order to remove the dash. A qualified technician could probably do the job in 6 hours. How to find out where heater core is in my 1996 dodge neon?

Heater core going bad, leaking coolant...how long can I drive my car safely until it gets fixed?

My 2002 Chevy Cavalier was leaking coolant and I found out today at the oil change place, it's leaking from the heater core, and it's cracked, meaning that's the problem. I'm only just topping off my car with coolant every 2 days until I am able to get the problem fixed (friday) but is it ok to drive my car around until then, as long as I keep the coolant level up and don't use my heat or air in my car??Heater core going bad, leaking coolant...how long can I drive my car safely until it gets fixed?
As long as you don't let your coolant level get too low, you'll be fine to drive it until Friday.Heater core going bad, leaking coolant...how long can I drive my car safely until it gets fixed?
keep the heater temp control all the way to cold. the coolant will not flow into the core. check your coolant level.Heater core going bad, leaking coolant...how long can I drive my car safely until it gets fixed?
As long as you dont lets your engien run out of, or too low on coolant, it will not effect yoru engine.

Obviously you will be leakign coolant onto your floorboard in yoru car, which is anoying, to stop this, you can bypass your heater core by redoing the hoses that goto it, it fairly simple to do, and the end result will be you will not have heat in your car untill you replace the heater core, and reconnect the hoses.

Its springtime, and you really shoudlnt need your heat for several months, so i thing this is your best option. Also heater cores are very labor intensive to replace.

In the future, change your coolant as recomended by the manufacturer of your vehicle, failure to chang coolant will will result in the insides of your radiator and heater core coroding and cracking, which is most likel;y waht put yoru vehicle in the condition it is in now.Heater core going bad, leaking coolant...how long can I drive my car safely until it gets fixed?
Drain the coolant out of the heater core.

Tie off the hoses running to your heater core.

(find the 2 hoses that run to your heater core, there should be an inlet and outlet. Now drain some of your coolant down so it doesnt leak out.

Then pop off ONE of the hoses on your heater core, run a syphon pump thru down into your heater core, drain all the coolant out.

Now take that one hose and tie it to the other Inlet or Outlet of the heatercore....so that its just loope, not running down to your engine.

Now do basically the same thing with your engine, so the hoses ARENT running to the heatercore, so it wont be constantly pumping in coolant. You may need to run to autozone or advanceautoparts to buy a longer piece of hose in order to plug off the Engine Side of it....just make sure to take a piece of hose with you so you get the right diameter hose, also measure how long of hose you will need, then goto the store and they will cut you the right size piece of hose.

Ive seen people do this before, it works definately.

How do i remove the dashboard on a 1995 plymouth voyager?

i already have 60% of the dash board off. but the left side of the information panel located on the top of the steering area will not come off and there are no visible screws. i am trying to change my heater core. i know i have to go behind the dash board to get to the heater box to remove it to replace it. my situation is i cant afford to get this work done and must do it, so i must do it myself. there was a strong sweet scent (smelled like old anti freeze) coming from my vents and my heat doesn't work and i cant defrost my windshield. it fogs in seconds. i need all the help i can get. i've been working on this project for 3 days and haven't seen the heater core yet.How do i remove the dashboard on a 1995 plymouth voyager?
Did you pop the molding in front of the warning light panel (where your turn signal arrows are off? This just pops off and there are several screws that hold the panel in.

There are also screws in the instrument cluster that need to be removed, you may need to use a mirror to see them. The defrost air deflectors also pop off and there may be screws under them holding the dash. How do i remove the dashboard on a 1995 plymouth voyager?
You need to buy a Haynes manual from autozone. You picked one of the most irritating jobs to do on any car. I don't even mess with those things. Too many screws. I hope that you marked all of them and put them in ziplocks. Good luck!

95 Chev Lumina?

How long does it take to change the heater core in one?95 Chev Lumina?
I have been there done that with the heater core, about 1 - 2 hours. It really sucks trying to get the dash apart and if I remember correctly its right in the center too. The hardest part will be disconnecting the heater hoses. Words of advise, take the 2 front upper engine mounts off, leave the car in gear, rock the car back and forth and as soon as the engine tilts forward enough so you can get in there and work, lock the emergency brake to hold it.95 Chev Lumina?
I don;t know on that one, I had a 97 lumina, It was a good car but i had to give it up cause the fuel pump went out and it was going to be 780 bucks at a shop to be fixed, It's like over 400 just for the fuel pump, THat price was a litle less than half of what i paid for the car.95 Chev Lumina?

Its really not that bad of job.first you have to remove all screws holding the top of the evap-heater case.it extends all the way to bottom of windshield, you will also have to remove r-h wiper arm and the wide metal trim below it there is a screen type insert ,it has to come off to.the top case will be sealed to the firewall and will have to be freed up using a long putty knife .getting the top to come loose is the hardest part the rest is easy

Its all there, heres a link to the heater core replacement page.

I went to the GMC Sonoma page but its the same for the S-10

Its a pretty straightforward job, not easy, but not the hardest thing to do.I have a 1992 S-10 pickup 2wd V6 4.3 litter?
Did you try to remove the hoses from inside the engine compartment and run a fairly strong stream of water placing the hose in one of the hose attachments and running it until it's clean water coming out. Then doing the same to the other attachment. this usually cleans out the heater core. maybe you can save some money.

    85 ford mustang air conditioning?

i hav an 85 mustang and i hav to take the dash out to change the heater core and i hav been told that i have to discharge the airconditioner or whatever how do i do that ? thanks85 ford mustang air conditioning?
for starters, you're going to need to change over refrigerant from old R-12 to R134a. The R-12 is hard to find and way too expensive. check with a local shop to see if they can recover the refrigerant from the system for you. then after you have completed heater core change out, have then charge the system with R134a. it will cost you a bit up front, but once the change over is done you'll be set for quite a while. Good luck85 ford mustang air conditioning?
let me know when you/if you release the refrigerant in the air bc i want a pic of it or just take a pic of it with you in it and send it to me

How to diagnose if my heater core isnt working properly?

i have bit warm air and changed the thermostat, but the air still not hot as it should be. but 1 of the hoses is hot and the other bottom hose is not as hot as hot the top hose that has the thermostat,so when 1 hose is hot and the other is warm is it still the thermostat problem or the heater core.if i misplaced the thermostat upside down would 1 hose be hot and the other be cooler? How to diagnose if my heater core isnt working properly?
You need to feel the two hoses at the heater core. They should feel the same. If there is a noticeable difference it's time to flush or replace the core. How to diagnose if my heater core isnt working properly?
One hose from heater has a valve on it that is probably not working.

No heat in a 2000 Ford Taurus. Possibly the control door in the heater/air conditioning box?

My friends have a 2000 Ford Taurus. They have not had heat for a while now. They have changed the thermostat, flushed the heater core and they know that everything is going through the heater core properly. I have the suspicion that the temperature control door inside the heater/air-conditioning box is stuck to the A/C setting. Does anyone know how to manually adjust this to make it be on the heat setting? No heat in a 2000 Ford Taurus. Possibly the control door in the heater/air conditioning box?
I'm not sure where it's located on your car but I know you will have to go in and prop it open or closed with something, preferably something like a gum consistency. When you do that though they will only be able to have heat. Then in the summer you can switch it and it will only have air. But will work until you save up for it, its about $700 to fix. Fords, I think, are notorious for this problemNo heat in a 2000 Ford Taurus. Possibly the control door in the heater/air conditioning box?
Your thinking is right, they have a tsb out for a blend door sticking and it's an not an easy job, sometimes you can sneak your hand up there and move it by hand, the prob is the door warps and sticks in the passage to hard for the arm to move it. Usually not to hard for a hand though... Good luckNo heat in a 2000 Ford Taurus. Possibly the control door in the heater/air conditioning box?
Open the glove box and squeeze the sides inward and remove.then you can get to the blend door.

Check this those blend/diverter doors malfunction a lot.

How much does it cost to replace a heater core?

I have a 1995 Ford Contour GL, 2.0 that I believe needs a heater core. I don't have time right now to replace it, so I am wondering about how much it would cost for parts and labor for the replacement. The dash does not need to be taken out, however the center console and shifter assembly does (without tearing apart wires and effing the overdrive). Other than that it's just a matter of removing some things and changing it out. Thanks in advance for your responses! How much does it cost to replace a heater core?
I don't know the specific time for it but if that's all your saying needs to be taken out then maybe 2 or 3 hours labor and then parts cost so possibly $200-400 in that range. How do you know it's leaking? Coolant on the floor? If you don't have the money it can be bypassed since you won't be using it much in the warmer season.

Heater core on a 1999 durango?

I have a 1999 dodge durango and smell antifreeze when the heater is on, but Im not loosing any antifreeze in the overflow tank or the radiator. And if it is the heater core, how hard is it to change. I know some cars you have to take out the dash. anyone here changed one?Heater core on a 1999 durango?
I work for a Chrysler dealer in service. It sounds like a heater core. If you can smell it and don't see any leaks on the ground, it more than likely is the core. If it starts to leak on the pass side floor inside the vehicle or you get a mist out of the vents when the heater is on, then that is the tell tale sign that the heater core is shot. Yes, you do have to pull the dash to change it. It's about a 4-5 hour process for our techs.Heater core on a 1999 durango?
Just get obama to get you a new truck on the tax payers.Heater core on a 1999 durango?
IT TAKES 5 HOURS TO DO IT WHICH INVOLVE REMOVING THE DASHBOARD. ANY TIME YOU SMELL ANTIFREEZE WHICH IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH, THE HEATER CORE IS LEAKING COOLANT. THE REASON WHY YOU NOT LOOSING COOLANT IS IT IS LEAKING VERY SMALL ENOUGH TO SMELL IT.Heater core on a 1999 durango?
If your heater core is leaking, you'll have coolant leaking inside your car and eventually lose coolant. Are you sure it is antifreeze you smell or more like mildew or musky smell which indicates build up in your heater core. I'm not familair with your vehicle but in some, you can get to it from the firewall inside the engine housing.

How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?

The heater core is leaking on the passenger side of the cabin. How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.

The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper. How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?
Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.

Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.

Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!

There are none on the firewall side. You have to kind of just do it blind. 1/4 inch drive with swivel and extension. I think they are 7mm. Sorry, I know that's a real *****. Good luck.
