Is the inlet hose the top or bottom hose on the firewall ?

I have a 93 isuzu rodeo I got it about 2 months ago there was no heater hoses to the heater core . changed the heater core with new one but I do not know what hose to place where .the heater core pipe from fire wall are top and bottom how does the hoses go one top of heater core to botton of moter someone help me .Is the inlet hose the top or bottom hose on the firewall ?
ha ha ive heard it dosent matter but it does matter just hook them up ,and if you hear a gurgeling coming from under the dash that means they are backwards air will get traped in the heater core and gurgle if it gurgles you have the charge hose on the bottom ..it wont hurt anything ,,,it just forces the air out when you start it ...Is the inlet hose the top or bottom hose on the firewall ?
It won't matter at all.

How much to fix a heater core?

I have a Ford Tarus 99 how much would it be to fix a heater core??? Plus if we have changed thermostat, flushed ratiator and heater still don't work it the heater core definatly the problem????How much to fix a heater core?
Ok a few questions for you. Does the blower blow air? And did all the air get out of the system? If it didn't it could be causing a air pocket that won't let the fluid flow. but if all of that is good then it really shouldn't cost that much depending on where you liveHow much to fix a heater core?
When you had done all of the items. When you where running the car did you turn on the heater? It will take some time for the new fluids to make its way back into the core. Start car and turn on the heater. Open radiator cap first to get a good flow. Warm up car. Check after about 10 min. to see if you have good flow in radiator. When there is a good flow. Then check to see if you have heat. Replace radiator cap. Then recheck heater. If not working still, Then check for a collapsed heater feed line hose. How much to fix a heater core?
The labor time needed to make a heater core repair is 5 hours per ALLDATA. The factory heater core is $74.00, so this is not a really quick or cheap repair. I'm guessing from what you have done so far on the vehicle that you are having overheating problems. The only thing that really happens to heater cores is they begin leaking when they get older. If you are having overheating problems....the first thing to check (since you have replaced the thermostat) would be to make sure the electric fan is kicking on like it is supposed to....these are controlled with by a module and I believe they operate at 2 different speeds. I hope this helps.

I have the thermostat as high it will go and cold air comes out. I just had my fluid flushed by some jackass and since then my a/c quit and now my heater wont work. What might the problem be? Heater core? I already checked all of my fuses.1999 GMC Envoy how hard is it to change the heater core if thats the problem? My heater in my truck wont work help.?
Well if it started after the guy did a tap dance all under your hood you need to take it back to him. Get him to fix it.My heater in my truck wont work help.?
You could have a air lock from the fluid flush. But the heater core should be fine. Did they replace the thermostat when they flushed the fluids? My heater in my truck wont work help.?
fluid flushed and no ac...i once had tune up and got a flat tire...there is a door under dash to direct hot air...it may b stuck closed...ac is compleatly differnt matter unless dash switch is shot.My heater in my truck wont work help.?
you should turn the heater on high, then open hood and check both hoses going to heater core, both should be hot. If not then you have a heater core stopped up or a bad water control valve. If both are hot then there is probably a problem with the vac *** control ed air blend system which controls the amount of cool air mixed with heater warmed air. If your heater core is leaking you will probably have fog on windshield and a smell of glycol. My heater in my truck wont work help.?
the heat sensor is bad just go to autozone an replace itMy heater in my truck wont work help.?
IF the [small] vacuum hose fell off or was taken off that goes inside the vehicle - U will have that problem. butt the air would

just come out the floor vents. The small hose usually connects @ the intake manifold. IF when U accelerate the vent air changes from the upper vents 2 the floor - then its just a vacuum hose.My heater in my truck wont work help.?
the suggestion about checking the hoses is the first place to look since that is the easiest. Next, is to check the vacuum line going to your control head (the part that you move to go from hot to cold) that line comes in from the engine compartment and usually goes into the fire wall where the evaporator core is on the passenger side under the hood. In your situation your blend doors can be controled either electrically or by vacuum. the door you are looking for is behind the radio and control head in the passenger compartment. good luck.

Has anyone changed a heater core in a 95 ford ranger p.u.?

the manual says i have to pull the dash on this model isthis true and if so can anyone give me a clue on how best to go about this. thank youHas anyone changed a heater core in a 95 ford ranger p.u.?
yes you need to cut the dash unless your truck is just a beater. In that case you just cut the casing thats behind the heater core replace the core and then two part epoxy the case back together. It turns a all day job into a 2 hour job.

Anybody every changed a Heater Core on a 1997 Lexus LX450?

My neighbor needs a heater core replaced on her 1997 LX450. Anybody ever tackled this? I know on some of the Lexus models, you have to go as far as taking out the motor mounts and propping the motor up to get to the heater core that is buried between the motor, tranny, and firewall. Others, I know you have to take out the dash. How bad is the LX450, and what does it involve? I am very mechanically inclined, and would like to help my neighbor, so she doesn't have to pay $1,500 at Lexus. Thanks!Anybody every changed a Heater Core on a 1997 Lexus LX450?
I've had the dash out of maybe 10 LX's. (i work at a body shop). Get ready..... The dash pad comes off. You don't have to remove the inner support bar(side to side). Start with the glove box and lower cover. Step by step is hard to explain. I don't have books or help when I pull a dash. The parts are very costly if you brake something. E-mail me please before you start.

    Cavalier heater core?

Seriously how hard will it be to change the heater core in my '97 chevy cavalier? How long will it take. I was told it will be over an 8 hr job and was given an estimate of $625.Cavalier heater core?
Cavalier heater core is located in the middle of the dash, pretty much in line with the gear shifter and console. They arent hard to do, just awkward to get to. Then heater hoses can be difficult to get to, sometimes you have to jack the car up and access them from underneath.

Call around and get 2 or 3 quotes before you pay out the $625. Cavalier heater core?

It should only take a skilled professional 1-3 hours. I have never worked on a chevy cavalier but it should be accessible from under the dash on the passengers side.Cavalier heater core?
I hate to say this but that sounds about right. You can't just yank the housing down to get it out. Half the bloody dash has to come out. SORRY for your loss. This is why people scrap their cars. The repairs start to cost more than the car is worth.Cavalier heater core?

goto Autozone.com and look up the free repair guide for your car. It will tell you how its done.

but my q is: whay do you want to change the heater core??? is it leaking??

If its just a Q of not getting heat-- be advised that the car has a water inlet control valve for the heater core that is located on the water hose going INTO the heater core and it just might be the problem.

A hell of a lot cheaper than replacing a heater core. If the core is not leaking water all over the place that just might be the problem.

    Heater core in Chevy Tracker?

Does anyone know how big a job it is to change a heater core in a 2000 Chevy Tracker? I was told by a local garage the heater core itself was only available from Chevy and cost $300! Does this sound right? Thanks.Heater core in Chevy Tracker?
Changing the heater core on a '00 Tracker is moderately difficult. To do it right you must remove the entire dash pan (just like a Ford), but besides that it's easy. The problem with removing the dash pan is the you will probably never get all the rattling out after you reinstall in. As far as getting the core you local parts store should be able to get it for you. You can go to www.advanceautoparts.com or www.autozone.com and check on-line to make sure. How do u change flush a heater core?

In a 1999 ford Taurus, 3.0 L engine, not the doh engine, just the regular 3.0 engine, the coolent does have a brownish tint to it. I've had radiator flushes every single year, but i still have no heat. i heard that flushing the heater core is different, so I'd like to know, step by step in how to do this correctly. My thermostat was changed yesterday, I've touched the pipes in the firewall(was told these are the heater core hoses) and one was warm(luke) and the other was warmer(more than luke), but i still have no heat, my heat blows like luke warm to cold, and it takes a long time to get up there. Help please! How do u change flush a heater core?
When you flush the system it runs through the heater core if it isn't heating up correctly try putting a thermostat in that runs a little hotter. I had to do this with a vehicle I owned as it wouldn't blow out hot air it was luke warmHow do u change flush a heater core?
You can buy a kit from Canadian tire or Auto Zone for about $7.00 and all you do is hook a garden hose on it start the car then turn on the water. Also you should add a winter thermastat. This will allow the antifreeze to warm up more before it gets cooled off in the rad. If this still doesn't work then put a piece of cardboard in front of your rad.How do u change flush a heater core?
    flush and drain cooling system.

there is a chemical called C.L.R. you can buy it in most any hardware store. buy 2 lengths of heater hose long enough to reach the heater core and come out the hood enough to get a funnel in one of them, run the other into a bucket under the car. pour the CLR into the funnel and let it run through the heater core. follow with distilled water. reconnect heater lines from motor. refill cooling system with proper mixture of antifreeze and distilled water.

this doesnt always work (about 50% of the time) but its easier and cheaper than a heater core replacement. especially in a taurus. How do u change flush a heater core?
IF YOU HAD THE DONE ON A REGULAR BASIS THEN THE HEATER CORE WOULD HAVE BEEN FLUSHED OUT AT THE SAME TIME.

IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT YOURSELF JUST REMOVE BOTH HEATER LINES FROM THE HEATER CORE AND FLUSH IT OUT WITH YOUR GARDEN HOSE.How do u change flush a heater core?
you have a valve that control the flow for the heater core, some are controlled by a vacuum or cable when you select heater or the temperature, check the vacuum system for leaks,.because when the controls are working fine the water in the heater core should flow freely heating up the core.I hope this help.

If the heater core isn't leaking, it isn't bad.

You may have a problem with the flapper doors in the ducting. This car may have a valve to control the water going thru the heater core as well.1989 Chevy Corsica V6 Heater Core?
u need to be on pimp my ride or somethin, but for real, go to a chop shop1989 Chevy Corsica V6 Heater Core?
well,if the core is on the pass side then replace.if on drivers side-ouch!-trade it in.1989 Chevy Corsica V6 Heater Core?
That's a tough chore, you have to just about remove your dashboard from the car to get to the thing. First thing you'll need is a haynes or chilton's manual. then remove the bolts securing the dasto the firewall on the passenger side of the car, next drop the duct work in front of the heater core, then drain the radiator fluid from the car. remove the lines from the heater core at the fire wall, remove the core, replace, reconnect the lines, refill the radiator, replace the duct work, and reinstall the dash, make sure you don't break any wires or lines connecting the duct controls. Sounds easy right? Good Luck. A shop will usually charge around $250- $400 It will take you a solid day, you will cuss a lot, and God himself will turn his back on yo for weeks becuse of the things you will say about him. If you or some one you know is hndy you can try this. Go to an auto parts store and buy a tube of radiator stop leak, (wait for the good part) you will also need a drill operated fluid transfer pump, a cheap one is about $20 bucks, some hose that is the same size as the in and out on your core, and some HOT water. Hook the bottom line to your core, and to the pump on the drill, take the HOT water mixed with stop leak and pour it into the hose hooked to the core, put it on the pump. Turn the drill on and circulate it for as long as you care to or until no water leaks from the core (you may burn up the drill) Then flush it with clean water and reconnect the system. I say do this the hard way because I don't advocate putting metal flakes into your cars coolings system, which could potentially foul up something that isn't a problem now, It might cost $75 but could save you $300.

The heater core is located behind the glove compartment.

You will need to remove the two heater hoses that enter the

firewall on the passenger's side. They are right next to each

other. Now, remove the glove compartment. The heater core

is behind it. Remove the bracket holding the core. Now,

remove the heater core. Installation is the reverse. Make

sure you have the heater core top side up. This job should

take you approx. 40 minutes.Need help on removing heater core?
Check manuals to see how much stuff you have to take out to get to it. You can check under the dash board, usually on the right side. To make this easier, take out:

    right side seat

    glove compartment drawer and cover

    center console

Under the hood, go to the firewall. Disconnect the two heater hoses that pass through the firewall to the heater core.Need help on removing heater core?

I'm changing the heater core in a 1994 Ford ranger 4x4. Can someone tell me how to do it & is it hard to do?

Now its been a while, but I believe you go under the dash on the passenger side. There will be some plastic retainers holding the formed kick guard in place, pull those out. When you get down to the plastic area, there should be 4 screws or bolts holding it on, remove those and pull the plastic piece away. Don't forget to drain the coolant system first.

Now, under the hood, find the feed and return line from the heater core and remove them from the heater core. The core should now prettry easily pull back and then down out from under the dash. Place new heater core in, re atttach hoses in engine compartment, replace plastic piece under heater core, and put the formed kick guard back on. Now refill the system with coolant and test out your new heater core.I%26039;m changing the heater core in a 1994 Ford ranger 4x4. Can someone tell me how to do it %26amp; is it hard to do?

How to change out the heater core on a 1994 Chevy Blazer?

Changing the core should not be attempted by anyone. You have to remove your dash as well as work under the hood. Most mechanics try everything to keep from replacing the core. Anyways, once you have dash torn apart, (your core will resemble your radiator) drain out as much fluids as possible, disconnect the hoses under the hood and then begin the dismounting unit. Reverse the procedure for replacement.

If your heater is simply not producing heat in the cab, try flushing your system and replacing the engine thermostat. How to change out the heater core on a 1994 Chevy Blazer?

Ok im doing mine right now to, buy the book first, then you need to pull out the glove box, ash tray, and disconnect all the cables leading to the heater box under the dash, then you get into the motor compartment and where the heater and air conditioner is you should find maybe 3 nuts that are around the air conditioner or the heater box, don't touch the bolts, one might be a ***** because of the inner fender, and you might need to lower that to get to it, then grab the heater box from the inside and lift and pull it out,

open it up and change out the heater core, then back together, I tried to make it sound easy but it really sucks.

I believe it is similar to the placement in a camaro. To find your heater core, look under your hood for a silver canister with silver lines running into the firewall into the interior. I am betting it is located behind the passenger side glove box. Should be about 3 nuts to remove glove box and use a flashlight to see how to unbolt heater core. How to change out a heater core in a 1996 Mustang Coupe?
you make it sound so easy

the silver lines are for the air conditioner and they go to the evaporator.

Why not go ahead and buy the manual (Haynes) from AutoZone , it will cost you less than $20........... you can use it to find out how to repair everything else on truck except the transmission! You only need to remove about 12 screws, and 3-4 bolts, - it is easier than taking our tonsils out through your ear! I have done it in about 1 1/2 hours, you should be able to do it in 3! Actually not that hard, but the bolts and screws are hard to find, - if you don't know where to look!

Do i have to rip the whole dash off? is there a website that will show me how? HELP!!!!How do you change a heater core on a VW Jetta (96).?
You can go on line and look around. Heater cores can be a pain to near impossible. I can't speak for the VW jetta. You may want to price out an independent car shop. Try car talk dot com and look for recommended mechanics. You put your zip in. Call around and get a price. It may be easier and best to get it a shop to do the repair. At least price it out. The part is not cheap either. It is a super common problem and some shops have the practice and can get it done with out issues, but it will not be cheap. Sorry

I have a factory shop manual and found several areas in which no guidance was offered or where information was incomplete.

I wouldn't start this unless you are an above average mechanic and have good tools and better than average patience.

Some manuals are poor and not very complete. If you don't have some experience and ablities it can be tough. I recall you have to remove the dash and if you have AC it will complicate it more. Good luckHow do you change a heater core on a VW Jetta (96).?

Your best bet is to get a repair manual (about $20.00) at your auto parts store. It has step-by-step instuctions on how to do about any repair you need to do. The heater core is usually under the dash on the passenger side and a lot of times you have to remove part of the dash to get to it.

It's really not that bad. I believe all you have to do is open up theglove compartment and remove the inner glove compartment and maybe one more inner cover and the heater core should be exposed. Then all you have to do is drain about two gallons of anti-freeze and then you can remove the old heater core then you can install the new one. Then fill it back up with anti- freeze. Heater cores are a big pain in the butt. Have a shop do it. I had my whole heater box replaced, it contained the heater core, ac evaporator and blower motor, the whole dashboard had to come out of the truck.... there was nothing there but the steering colum anf the firewall, it took the shop 5 days and cost me $1000 for the whole job. It should be a little cheaper for you cuz you are just changing the core, I would say around $500.Details on how to change a heater core....?
You will probably have to pull half your interior/dash out. See if you can find a Haynes Repair manual for the car or check ebay for a factory service manual on CD. It's most likely a bunch of trim panels and screws you have to pull off. Be careful though, you're likely to break all that old plastic when you pull it apart.Details on how to change a heater core....?
its not easy but take your time.remove the glove box and you will see the heater box disconnect the power line to the blower motor and you will see the core. you will see the problem . at this point you will have scraped up fingers cause its a small place to get at. the core is about 20 dollars .bring the old core with you to match it up and maybe get a core credit. p.s get new clamps.

Get a Hanes manual for this make and model car. Try your public library. How to change a heater core on a 1995 plymouth voyager?
    Here's the trick:

    Luckily it ain't a 96...

Either way, dodge puts all the a/c and heating in a single box that is bolted to the firewall. You have to pull the whole danged box out. If it were a 96, whole danged dash comes out. On yours, only half comes out.

Disconnect battery so you don't have to worry about shorting something out or blowing out the airbags when you move the wires..

On yours, you just have to pull the heater controls, radio, and the entire knee bolster (the lower trim panel that faces your knees), including the lower center console (ash tray, misc storage, etc).

Get all the misc wiring harnesses, vacuum lines, and other BS out of the way and disconnected from the box.

Drain radiator. Disconnect the heater hoses.

Disconnect the a/c lines (pull the 13mm that secures the line to a block. Then take the two torx head screws out of the block). Then you have to pull all the nuts that secures the heater box to the firewall.

Put the box on the ground, and take it apart. About 400 screws hold it together.

Make sure when you reassemble the box all the doors move...else you get to do it again...

    Reassemble.

I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?

also how do i flush the system. I dont know where the drain plug isI paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
The airbag light is on because the computer has detected a problem with the airbag circuit. Does that have anything to do with changing the heater core? Possible, but very unlikely. Ask the guy at Napa and see what he says about it.

The drain plug will be at the lowest point on your radiator, on the inside (toward the engine).I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
might have knock off a wire while he was under dash

    and type into search box

    how to flush a radiator

drain plugs are along bottom edge of most radiators and you can always remove lower hose to drain really best way to flush as well remove a hose crank car let run coolant wil push out add water hose into radiator to flush not hardI paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
The air bag light may or may not be related to the repair. Was it on when you picked up the vehicle? If so, there may be a connector that's unplugged.

You don't need to find the drain if you're going to flush the system. You simply need a hose connector.I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
many newer cars have no drain...if none on yours pull off the lower hose to flush...didn't the mechanic flush and refill with 50/50 coolant/water? if not shame on him for a crappy job....that goes for the air bag too..the computer detected that it was unhooked to remove dash,,,he should have disconnected battery to do workI paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
the mechanic may have needed to remove it to replace the heater core?

    But that's not likely

give your mechanic and have him look at it.I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
Just take the lower radiator hose off to drain. Put it back on and fill with radiator flush and run it for a few minutes then remove the hose again to drain. Put the hose back on and fill with coolant.

How long does it takes to change a heater core on a s10 chevy blazer?

The shop guides say that it should take 12 to 14 hours to do the job. I have done it in as little as 4 hours though. If you unbolt the steering column and let it drop to the seat and then remove the screws that run it at the defrosters right beside the windshield and then remove the 2 bolts in the dash right beside the kick panels the entire dash will slide back about 6 inches which is just barely enough room to get the cover off the heater box you should be able to do it in a lot less time than they call for. It is a back killing job though with tons of twisting and bending to get at it this way but it saves a lot of time. The wires and everything that are behind the dash can stay connected and will give you just enough room to get in there so leave them connected. Hope I have been helpful. How long does it takes to change a heater core on a s10 chevy blazer?

the only place I know to get any type of diagram for the 94 Cadillac is from the original shop manual (not a Chilton's) that's usually given to shop mechanics at the dealership. However, you can buy one online or over the phone, but it may be a little pricey (between $70-$100 depending on condition). Check out Faxon Auto Literature (website below) and you might be able to get what you need. If they don't have it, they might be able to point you in the right direction to get one.

1984 Ford F150 Heater core change?

How long would it take to change this? My dad told me to figure it out.. and im a little clueless. Any help is welcome. THANK YOU!1984 Ford F150 Heater core change?
About 1 and a half hour.Book time 20 minutes different between with or without AC.1984 Ford F150 Heater core change?
For a seasoned mechanic with all the needed tools... 1-2 hours would be a fair estimation. For the novice... it might take 3-5 simply due to an overall lack of experience. It won't be too tough however, even if you've never done it before. What helps is that there's a lot of room to work under the hood of the truck (assuming that the truck doesn't have air conditioning) and in the cab as well.

Most of the work will be done inside the cab but don't forget that you need to drain coolant from the radiator to the point where it won't flow out of the hoses that carry the coolant from the block to the heater and back. The hoses will be clamped to the heater core itself... the coolant flows through the core and the heater motor blows air through the core, thus providing hot air for the cab. Essentially, the heater core is an exchanger... and it works well for that purpose.

Anyway, what you have to do is expose the heater core and remove it for the new one. There will be a housing that contains the core and the blower... and there will be some ducting and the hoses going to/from %26amp; in/out of it. The housing itself will either have screws or clips holding it together, just take your time when dis-assembling it and don't lose any parts. It will be very simple as I said though... you don't really need a shop manual for this job.

What to make sure of? That you don't damage the new core, the hose clamps are tight (no leaks!), that you don't mix up any air hoses going to or from the housing (they need to be right or you could end up with hot air when the controls are set to cold and vice versa) and that you hook any control cable back up correctly so you can turn on and off the blower motor and adjust where the air goes through the vents. Other than that? Not much to say... but if your dad has plenty of tools, you should be able to pull this off without him. In a few hours. Best wishes!

PS What's a good way to keep track of what goes where? Use a Sharpie ink pen... and mark things before you remove them. I usually use letters like A, B, C. Just mark each two parts that go together with a different letter and you'll be good to go when putting them back together. Woot!

Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?

HELP we need to know how to take the heater core out of the car....it's a 97 pontiac grand am...Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?
Open the hood, find the heater hoses. Where they go through the firewall, that will be the heater core. If there are hose clamps there, take them loose and pull the hoses.

Now look at the same place the hoses were inside the car. That's the heater box, the core is inside that. Take out the box,(don't forget there are also wires connected that control the fan, unplug them), remove the core, put the new on in, replace the box, connect the hoses, add coolant as needed.Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?

First drain coolant from the cooling system, next, remove the heater coolant hoses, and then remove all the heater box mounting bolts (some are inside and some are in the engine compartment.) Remove the heater box (housing). You may have to loosen the dash to remove the heater box. Then disassemble the box to install the new heater core.Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?
These are a major pain in the *** to replace so prepare yourself for a big bill or a long time to do this. You have to drain the coolant system some and remove the hoses to the core under the hood. Then start removing all sorts of panels and dash parts to get at the core. On some of these cars we had to remove the entire dash to get access at the HVAC duct work. I would get an exploded view of the dash and the directions to do this from the dealer. Good luck.

The 98 model heater core is vertically mounted, thus the dash must be removed and the top of the evaporator case removed for access. The book shows roughly 7 hours of labor.

A Ford tech that does this often can beat this time pretty easily, but if you have only done it a few times or never, it will take that amount of time.

The one who said 15 minutes, good luck. Love to see you do it!! Now the older trucks were quite easy, and 15 minutes on those was about right. Not gonna happen with the new body style, though. How long does it take to change a heater core in a 1998 ford F150 xlt pick up?

To change out the heater core you must first remove the area where the lower console is, behind the radio is the heater core. You have to remove all the hardware and remember where each and every screw goes, not kidding. It is truly easy to forget where they go after about 75 screws removed. Enter your local auto parts store and ask for a repair manual for a 1993 Grand Prix. In this book you will view the sequence on how to do this yourself. You will be required to use the necessary tools to complete the job. It is an in-depth job that requires skill, knowledge, and experience. How do you change a heater core on a 1993 Grand Prix? drain coolant

remove heater hoses and the little drain elbow from the out side of the car underneath towards the center of the fire wall.

remove cover from the bottom of the dash on Both sides of the center console

remove the floor vent from the center of the dash

remove the cover there are 6 or 7 screws in the cover there are two towards the fire wall that are pain in the but to get and one that is about one inch from the passanger side of the cover if you don't remove that one, and it's hidden very well the box cover will break

remove the straps from the heater core pull down and towards the back of the car.

If you get this far installation is reverse of removal If your not uses to doing this sort of work you will spend more money at a chiropractor then paying the mechanic to do it.

First off what is the year make and model of the vehicle?

Second, sadly the answer is no on most newer cars and trucks the heater core is located inside a unit inside the dash area that controls the air flow inside the vehicle, its not impossible to do this job but its often easier and quicker to have a professional mechanic do it as there will be less chance of damage to other components. Is there an easier way to change the heater core than pulling the dash off?
Since this is in the Dodge section assume you are talking about a Dodge. You didn't say what kind, but doesn't matter, I have said for years %26quot;half%26quot; jokingly that the first thing down the assembly line is the heater core and the rest of the car is built around it. Of course that is not %26quot;totally true%26quot; but on some cars you would sure think so. This depends solely on how old of a Dodge you have. The newer the worse off you are. Some of the real old ones like Dodge Charger in the 60's and early 70's had the entire under dash unit with heater and ac condenser that would come out with just a few bolts from under the hood. Other than that most any modern one is a real bear. These so-called engineers have to know that this stands a good change of having to be done at one point or other. Change one in a Dodge pickup or certain years and once the Dashboard is out in the yard and everything underneath it you will %26quot;swear%26quot; that the truck was built around that part first. :-) Good news though is that you can do this yourself if you simply set aside a day to do it without interruptions. One of them took us 9 hours of solid work but most can be done in much less time on most vehicles. Good Luck!

The entire dash will need to be removed inorder to get access to the heater core housing. Labor hours show about 5hr job.

How difficult is it to change the heater core on a 1999 Jetta?

Firstly, I assume that you're talking about a MK 4 series vehicle; if it is then you should figure at least 5 hours to 8 hours of labour at the posted hourly rate depending upon the skill of the person doing the job.(plus parts and tax)

On a 99.5 Jetta (MK4), you need to pull the dash and disconnect the a/c lines to the heater/ac climate control box. Some people are able to remove the heater core without having to completely remove the box loose from the vehicle, thus saving time. It is not a job for the faint of heart, nor is it a job for the average do it your selfer--- The original Soficia? heater cores weren't great and the Valeo cores are better. I have been told that at least one company makes a heater core out of copper instead of the alloy and plastic OEM core that was installed at the factory, but I've never seen one of these copper heater cores. ( I have seen a copper radiator replacement for the alloy radiators, so I have reason to believe that a copper heater core does exist).

Your least expensive choice would be either a VW specialist or an a/c specialist to replace the heater core. My suggestion is either a dealership or the independent VW specialist replace the heater core because I've seen too many jobs that have been done poorly and have either damaged the climate control box or failed to install the box assembly correctly (they can rattle badly if not secured properly and its a pain to fix) or failed to adjust or connect something.

I hope this helps, a car nut.How difficult is it to change the heater core on a 1999 Jetta?
This takes a long long time and is no piece of cake. Give yourself 10 hours to do this to unfasten and refasten every nut, bolt, and screw on there. The late model Jettas are not known to have good heater cores and they are infamous for this problem.

Heater cores are difficult to change. It usually requires removing most of the dash to replace. I don't think that is your problem, though. I think that your radiator is plugged, that is the air can't flow through it. Possibly your electric cooling fan isn't working properly.

How long should it take to change a heater core on a 2001 Taurus ?

And do you have to recover the refrigerant, If so why ?How long should it take to change a heater core on a 2001 Taurus ?
I don't believe you have to worry about the A/C IMO. The heater core will have two hoses that might have to be disconnected. And it's located in the engine compartment in the back on the firewall. You'll see two 5/8%26quot; sized hoses, one is the inlet, and the other an outlet for the antifreeze/coolant to circulate through the heater core. If you could, you should buy a service manual for the vehicle at you local auto parts store. The brand is either Chilton, or Haynes and they go for about $20-$25. Plus it's an investment, and it's better to read up on it to avoid getting into problems that may cost you time. Below is a link of the repair manual i'm talking about. yes they have to recover the refrigerant (r-134a) because the EPA wont let them release it in to the atmosphere and they can just put back the same amount you had before and shouldn't charge you long as you had enough for your system to run

wel ifyou are going to do i your self the first thing to check if you have not you is is it leaking aintifreeze if it is it could be the water pump but if you smell a sweet smell its the heater core but it could also be the therostat is tuck open and if so it would not let it heat up but to change the heater core drain the antifreeze and un hook the 2 hoses under the hood then unde the center console you will find it you will be looking for a box under the dash next to the fire wall you will have to unbolt it and then open the box up and take the old one out and put the new one in but one other thing u can try if its not leaking is they make an acid that you can put in to it and it tells you what to do on th bottle it will clean out the heater core and therest of the system but also check th thermostat to stt if ts stuck openHow to change a heater core?
Rog on the above answer. How do you know it's bad? If it isn't leaking, then it is fine, and your heat/cool blend door is the problem. If it isn't leaking and the hoses that go to the firewall are both hot when you car is warmed up, it's definitely the blend door.

The blend door is operated by either a cable, which is usually the case if the temp is controlled by sliding the knob across the control panel.

It could also be vacuum operated, using a small diaphragm to operate the blend door.

mjv, you can pickup a ' haynes ' manual at yer nearest parts shop for about $18 %26amp; these books are really good.It covers all the MAINTENANCE %26amp; repairs. I really push maintenance because it will prevent repairs. A coolant dump %26amp; refill will prevent the corrosian that hurts heater cores.Good Luck =^ )How do you change the heater core on a 1991 Chevy Cavalier?

  • How difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?

I have a 1999 blazer and it is not heating properly. Today i went out driving and came back home and the hoses going to the heater were not even hot. So i assume the heater core is plugged up or not working. Is there any way to unplug it without taking it out? And also how hard will it be to take out and replace if i have to? I am assuming it is behind the dash because the hoses go through the firewall. How difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
first of all it could be be many things ,thermostat thats usually the cause so start there sometimes it will stick open , or it could be low on water yes i know sounds stupid but 6 out of 10 times someone brings there car in thats what it is or the radiator is plugged that's easy to see just take the bottom hose loose if water comes out steady it is not plugged iv never seen heater core plug in 15 years it will bust or go out then it will put antifreeze on your windshield when you turn on the defrost. the heater core does not heat the water it just sits in front of the fan with the hot water the moter heats the water when the thermostat closed water gets hot it opens the water is moving so it stays cool plus if its pluged it will get real hot like a plugged thermostat the core is not pluggedHow difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
If you live in a state like me and never use heat, you can take the two hoses off where they go through the firewall and go to autozone and get an adapter to hook them together. As far as changing out the heater core, half the dash has to come out and if you never have done this, I would pay a shop to do.How difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
take off coolant hoses in engine compartment and put a water hose to it..or ....remove dash.. be sure what problem is...is hot water going into core????... i had same symtoms and it was little door that moves heat around....25 dollarsHow difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
you should try taking the line off, and flushing the pipes of the heater core out first. probably just clogged with debris. then reconnect the hoses and try the heat, that should do the trick. on those you gotta remove the whole dash carrier and evaporater box to gain acces to the core. try flushing first. pretty much if its not leaking into the car or anywhere else, its just clogged. How difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
It is behind the dash and its more time consuming than difficult. What I would recommend first is disconnecting the hoses from the engine and try blowing through them or running a garden hose through them to see for sure if that's the problem. It won't take very long and will definitely prove if the problem is in the core or elsewhere. How difficult is it to change heater cores in my blazer?
If neither hose is hot, look at the thermostat as being the problem. Usually one hose will be hot and the other will be cool or just warm if the core is plugged. Pay for a proper diagnosis before you start buying parts.

Drive to a repair shop and be prepared to spend ~$1000 on it.

You can do it, but it's pretty involved unless you're confident working on your Jeep. It's easily an 8?0 hour job if you know what you're doing. How to change a heater core on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee overland?
